Our Chair of Trustees - Dr Melernie Meheux


Melernie was born in Tottenham, North London. She is a Chartered Educational and Child Psychologist and Play Therapist, with a focus on children’s emotional wellbeing, inclusion, and social justice.

Mel has held senior roles in local authority services, supporting schools and families, and has published widely and created public-facing resources on children’s mental health, inequality, and the importance of play.

She is an academic tutor at the UCL Institute of Education and Co-Chair of the British Psychological Society (BPS), Division of Child and Educational Psychology (DECP), working party on equity, diversity and inclusion. She is committed to creating environments where children are able to thrive.

Wajma Torkmani Trustee

Wajma is an Educational and Child Psychologist. She has a keen interest in working with others to support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. Wajma is also a qualified Play Therapist, and promotes the importance of play in children’s development, wellbeing, and learning.

Una McGuinness Trustee

Una is originally from Derry, Ireland and has been living in London for over 15 years. She is an HR Director, with over 20 years experience across both HR and Finance. Una is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. She enjoys exploring London and has a passion for travel.

Alain Mandy Trustee

Alain Mandy is a Chief Operating Officer and Senior Advisor in Asset Management. Alain holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Business Engineering from Louvain School of Management and a diploma in Analysis, Control, and Auditing from School for Advanced Business Studies (HEC), Belgium.

Hassan Laroussi Treasurer

With a diverse and dynamic career spanning roles as a Director, Partner, and Investor, Hassan brings a wealth of experience and passion. A born-and-bred Londoner, Hassan spent ten years working and travelling the world before returning home to build his own companies from the ground up.

Miriam Family Wellbeing Lead & DSL

With experience of working with children for over 30 years, Miriam looks after all our parents and carers. She is the key driver behind Grandparents Rock and Champions Club.

Joanna Volunteer Coordinator & DSL

Joanna joined us 2 years ago. With vast experience in working with charities and children, she brings enthusiasm and energy to managing a database of 300+ volunteers.

Mohammed Rise Co-Lead

Moe started with us as a beneficiary aged 10 and has since become a staff member. He’s now a firefighter and paramedic, and is someone who represents us consistently at events.

Haimanot Finance Administrator

Haimanot has supported the charity for 12 years. She provides consistent financial oversight and steady guidance to ensure accountability and long-term sustainability.

Rian Office Manager and Admin Support

Rian first joined us at age 8 as a participant. He has grown with us into a volunteer and now a staff member, supporting our projects and office needs.

Amel Rise Co-Lead

Amel has never missed a project with our children in the past 10 years, even when she began as a volunteer. She has played a key role in growing and strengthening our Teenage Project.

Jasmine Outreach & Engagement Officer

Currently completing her PhD in Population Mental Health Science at UCL with The Wellcome Trust, Jasmine has brought a wealth of knowledge to our charity over the past 3 years.

Niza Social Media Manager

Niza has supported project delivery and wider charity needs while managing all social media over the past 9 years. She brings a strong public health background that informs our work.
